The anime series' opening theme is alternated between the song "Departure!" and an alternate version titled "Departure! -Second Version-" both sung by Galneryus' vocalist Masatoshi Ono. On television, the series began airing on Adult Swim's Toonami programming block on April 17, 2016, and ended on June 23, 2019. Viz Media has licensed the anime for a DVD/Blu-ray release in North America with an English dub. The series started to be collected in both DVD and Blu-ray format on January 25, 2012. The new series premiered airing weekly on Nippon TV and the nationwide Nippon News Network from October 2, 2011. Instead of having the old cast reprise their roles for the new adaptation, the series features an entirely new cast to voice the characters. Produced by Nippon TV, VAP, Shueisha and Madhouse, the series is directed by Hiroshi Kōjina, with Atsushi Maekawa and Tsutomu Kamishiro handling series composition, Takahiro Yoshimatsu designing the characters and Yoshihisa Hirano composing the music. It is a complete reboot starting from the beginning of the original manga, with no connection to the first anime television series from 1999. This new Hunter × Hunter anime was announced on July 24, 2011. He learns that his father, Ging, is a legendary "Hunter", an individual who has proven themselves an elite member of humanity. The story begins with a young boy named Gon Freecss, who one day discovers that the father who he thought was dead, is in fact alive and well. Overall, regardless of the quirks mentioned I'd consider this a very good purchase and I would highly recommend it for anyone wanting to own the series. When reaching that episode, it might help to search up an image of the Nen user specialties chart for reference. In addition, there was one small translation error in episode 35 The x True x Pass (Japanese language, English subtitle setting) when Wing is explaining Nen user specialty types - the chart is initially mistranslated by placing words in the wrong order which would make his explanation very confusing for anyone not already familiar with the series. None of the other cases had any issues, and all were in pristine shape. While it was a nuisance to clean, all of the discs played fine afterwards and that's all I really care about, but it was strange for the entire inside of one case of seven to have that issue when the whole set was shrink wrapped. One of the seven cases came with a tear in the front paper insert, and the inside of the case including the discs was covered in a bunch of thick smears almost like vaseline - it took some time but I was able to clean the substance off the Blu-ray discs with a glasses cleaning microfiber cloth and the inside of the case became as clean as possible with some intense scrubbing with some lens spray (you can see in the attached photos that while most of the inside of the jewel cases are an extremely clear and shiny blue inside, the other one where you can see Gon and co's faces has an obvious grimy film). There were a couple of oddities which I've noted with photos, but I'm not going to officially dock from my 5 star rating because everything was fully functional. There are extra features such as art galleries which you can't get on Netflix which was a nice bonus. I'd recommend opening the cases on a flat surface, as a lot of the discs were loose when first opening (easily fixed when you put them back in and attach securely). The box set arrived on time and came shrink wrapped and with the 7 cases in an official illustrated box. The Blu-ray format and English subtitles (it offers both Japanese and English language) are on-par with the quality on Netflix. Hunter x Hunter is a great series - I had been watching it on Netflix and wanted to have a permanent copy, so this box set of the entire series episodes 1-148 was a good deal.
